I had a dear friend that died last year. She loved to share with me her prized household items. One thing that she showed me before she died was amazing. She had a pattern and pieces that her mother had used very often. The pattern was folded up in a quarter and was very aged. It was a pattern to crochet a "round" or "square" piece that you could make doily, table cloth, runner, bedspread or curtains. Just so exciting! The old timers had it ALL. No, I don't have that pattern. It is out there. Please share it.
I still think about my dear old friend. She lived to be in her 90's. Our personalities were about the same. I think about her two old dolls from the 1960's. She had them dressed up and standing by her TV. She called them "The Girls." One day I was there and I made a pair of socks for one of the girls out of old lace. I like to hand sew. I did this as a kid also. (encourage your daughters to these arts) Recently I seen an old doll skirt, unfinished or carefully taken apart, (so keep them) and the apron was either homemade or a nice piece of vintage crochet. Gave me an idea for doll aprons attached to skirts. Then I received a very very lovely small sweater and hat with a doll, dirty you know, but I washed carefully in my recycled plastic coffee container with lid (shake it up, soak, dump and rinse) OK baby. If you know a simple stitch like a chain you can repair a run if you get the closest color and thread/yarn weight. I have used heavy thread and cotton. If you work on the inside of garment the chain shows less and fills in the run. If you know more-good. You will need a fine crochet hook.
Older or younger- let us all enjoy the art of dolls and their clothing and items. Thank you for making my life- doll happy!
