CLEANING TIPS FOR VINTAGE TREASURES

So you've come home from that fun filled afternoon of rummaging through garage sales, thrift stores and flea markets and you can't wait to start researching your newly purchased finds.
Oh especially that Majolica stoneware pot you scored and that awesome pair of retro 80's boots! Of course the first thing is to flip that pot over and start looking for the marks.Easier said then done, and if it's too easy it's probably too new to be a find.
When it comes to pottery, ceramics, porcelain and stonewares more often than not the bottom rim will be unglazed and the most dirty. Now instead of reaching for the windex, dish soap, alcohol or water reach for the closest pencil or rubber eraser. As a matter of fact that new product recently on store shelves, the magic "eraser" actually came from the concept of erasing. As long as the eraser is clean it will work wonders on antique old dirt and grime without spreading it or damaging old treasures with harsh liquid. Also, the softer the eraser the better. It works great on oily residue too.
Thats not all. Those suede boots, and leather purse are perfect candidates for the erasure too. Anything from pen marks to scuffs. It may not completely vanish but pretty close. After erasing wipe with a clean cloth and rub back and forth to buff.
For really stubborn stains on suede especially I reach for a vary sharp clean razor blade. Suede is very forgiving when it comes to texture so very lightly graze the surface in all directions. Then get a course bristle brush or toothbrush thats clean and brush to blend.
Well hope these tips help out a lil.I got more but I'll save em for my next guide.
