Hot Wheels - Guide to Hot Wheels Red Line
Over the years, Hot Wheels have become one of the most popular collectibles among people of all ages. These miniature replicas of popular automobiles and concept cars were first introduced in 1968. These cars are so popular among collectors that Mattel estimates the average collection includes more than 1,500 cars!
One of the most popular styles of cars among avid collectors is the line of cars featuring red wheels. This line, often referred to as the Red Line, was first introduced in 1968, and as the name implies, features tires with a red line down the center. During the first year of production, some of the most popular Red Line Hot Wheels included the Custom Barracuda, Camaro, T-Bird, Mustang, Volkswagen, Eldorado, and Corvette.
If you're lucky enough to find a hot pink version of any of these cars, grab it if you can. They are the rarest of all the cars from this era. Another rare Red Line Hot Wheel is the Volkswagen Rear-Loader Beach Bomb. There are only two hot pink versions of this car, and one sold for more than $70,000 at an auction.
If a hot pink Hot Wheel is a little out of your price range, you can find plenty of other Red Line cars with unique styling. Other cars popular among collectors include the Evil Weevil, the Six Shooter, and the Double Header. While the Red Line of Hot Wheel cars was phased out in 1977, there are plenty available online. Ebay is an excellent resource for toy collectibles, including the most popular Hot Wheels models and rare ones, too!
