This is much less serious that my typical guide, but I think this is not a bad idea to have since i have seen them on lots of different food products. Hot dogs are about as american as the stars and stripes. The funny thing is that the concept of a hotdog came from the german frankfurter. Almost always the hot dogs that are bought in stores are pre cooked so they can be eaten raw ( I dont recomend this). Nutritionally they are filled with fats and not the most nutritious food, but they are very good tasting and a great tradition in america.

People cook hot dogs in many different ways. Some of the most common include, frying in a pan, barbequing, boiling, steaming, and rotisserie frying. Certain hot dogs will taste better with certain methods of cooking. Most ballparks typically use the rotisserie method or steaming.

There are a variety of dressings that people like on hot dogs depending on taste and region of the country. Mustard, ketchup, onions, relish, chili, cheese, and sauerkraut are all popular condiments. There are several local and regional favorite combinations.

The chicago hot dog is served on a sesame seed bun with mustard, onion, sweet pickle relish, a dill pickle spear, tomato wedge or slice, short peppers and a dash of celery salt. Ketchup is never used traditionally. I dont personally enjoy this hot dog very much partially because i dont like mustard, but several members of my taste panel really enjoyed these.

The coney island hot dog, originally developed in michigan, is a popular favorite in the middle atlantic north east to new york. Typically this hot dog contains chili, mustard and diced yellow onion. This is very delicious and good hot dog but can be very messing. I do not recomend letting children eat these with good clothes on.

The texas dog, one of my favorites, contains chil, shredded cheddar cheese or cheese cause, onions, and jalapeno peppers. This is very delicious. The ingredients give this one alot of kick. Variations on this have included bbq sauce, bason, various kinds of peppers and the addition of mustard.

My personal favorite is a hot dog with chili, cheese, onions, and sauerkraut. This mild yet spicy dog is great while watching football or baseball on television, although messy to watch live.

There are lots of brands. Some cook better ways than others. I have found oscar meyer to be the best in that it taste good cooked in a variety of ways. Thanks for reading and enjoy.
