If you are a Hotelier just starting out in the business, you have many decisions to make insofar as the design and furnishment of your property. Many large hotel chains mandate what exactly you should be stocking your rooms with and provide you those items (or at least a location to find them at). Oftern times though, your left to furnish your property yourself. When you get to laying out the guestroom, inevitably, you find you must purchase the necessary (read, "unnecessary") evil, the guest room telephones. You cringe because you know, that very infrequently will anybody use the phone due to the fact that every human being on the planet carries a cellphone with them at all waking hours. You've got to have one though because of your responsibilty to provide every guest the ability to dial "911". Now, you have to choose. How many brands, models, types, colors, features can there possibly be!?!!? Does the planet really need 300-400 different types of telephones, all of which ultimately serve the same purpose...to push one button, and ask for an extra towel?! Couldn't there just be one phone, with one button that you push for both 911 and the towel? "Hello, 911. Do you have an emergency?" "Yes, I dropped my large towel in the toilet, bent over to pick it up, slipped and broke my hip!" "We'll have an ambulance and a fresh set over right away!"
Well here you go, a breakdown of the basics of Hospitality Style telephones. First off, you have your basic, no frills model. The vintage, the classic, the stalwart,...the 2500 style touch tone desk model. If you are more than 5 years old, you have seen this telephone.
This model was more than likely used by A.G. Bell himself at one point. Not much to this guy. Plug in phone, plug in handset, dial, ask for towel. This model, although older, is still the most reliable, cheapest and ultimately effective telephone on the market (and can be found at Telecom Wholesale Central in EBay Stores).
On the other end, you have your Teledex brand telephones.
These puppies here are the top of the line as far as style, features and technology. Top of the line price wise too! They have models coming out with screens on the phone that allow you to order straight off of the menus of local restaurants. Check your e-mail, surf the web, even order towels from Taiwan if you plan a long stay. Teledex telephones feature a lifetime warranty and a huge selection of styles with many features and guest service capabilities. This phone is highly recommended for properties catering to the travelling business executives. (Teledex phones are also available at Telecom Wholesale Central)
The proverbial middle class telephones would belong to TeleMatrix.
TeleMatrix cuts down the models available to about 8 different models with two equally priced shapes. There is the Standard (Square) and the Euro-Style (Curved Right edge). These phones are more moderately priced, feature a five year warranty and are available (again...at Telecom Wholesale Central).
Finally, there is Scitec.
Scitec, also known as Aegis, are the working man's hotel phones. These are perfectly suited for the property that caters to the man who makes the towels he will be asking for twenty of because he wants you to have to order more towels for his own job security. Scitec/Aegis phones are very economically priced and actually have quite a few models to choose from with excellent features such as one-touch message waiting retrieval on their speakerphones. Guess where you can get these telephones?? That's right! At your friendly neighborhood telecommunications depot, Telecom Wholesale Central!
Please do not hesitate to visit our store and inquire about any of these models as well as our many other telephones and accessories!
