Danger !
Hello again fellow Ebayers...
Summer Scooter riding season is here again (unless you are reading this in the winter) and the 'ol 2 wheeler needs tires...Be Careful when you buy new rubber that you STAY AWAY from the cheap, junky Chinese tires being peddled here and elsewhere.Nothing against China, but these tires are flat out unsafe. When you get your scooter/moped up to 45-50 MPH and the sidewalls give out or the tread seperates,it's over. Then you can take some of that money that you "saved" and make a down payment on your 3 days in intensive care.
The "Q & A" format has always been popular on these little guides,so here's another
Q: Aha ! Mr. "Express 92" (If that is your REAL name), These tires are DOT approved. That means that the UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT says use these if we want to .So there.
A:The same government allowed the YUGO to be sold for 7 years.Currently, you can buy Old Grand Dad whisky,an AK-47 and Kent cigarettes (with the Micronite filter),too. How safe are these things ?
Q: Are these tires made by slaves in sweatshops? If so, do you know if they are hiring ?
A:Probably and Yes.
Q:Aren't so called "name brand " tires a LOT more expensive ? A man's gotta eat,you know.
A: You'll be eating through a straw if you put these crappy tires on your scooter and wind up face down in some ditch.Seriously, you can buy Michelin scooter tires (and motorcycle tires for the C-70 Passport) for just a couple of dollars more after considering the the outrageous shipping charges by some clowns on Ebay.
Q: Okay, Name names. Mr. High falutin' scooter person.
A: The most common is Cheng Shen. There are probably others,If you know of any, write your own guide because you would be doing us all a great service. In a word, find out where the tires are made.
Q: Are you going to use this forum to make a gratuitous slap at the incredibly cheap, crappy chinese scooters being sold to unsuspecting suckers here on Ebay? I mean are you going to point out how stupid it is to buy a machine from someone many states away from which there is no hope of parts or service support ? Are you going to mention that the majority of these things have a 60 day warranty on parts only ? Or that most sold end up in the garage or back yard rusting and rotting away because there are no parts available or mechanics that will waste valuable time on them ? Well, are you ? ! ARE YOU !!?
A:Probably not.
Q: Again, Mr. Express 92, you have made a believer out of me.I promise not to put my life (or others) in danger and use only first quality tires for my Passport C-70 or scooter.I can't thank you enough.
A: Aw shucks.
Q: Will you get lots of irate e-mails from the sellers of these trashy tires threatening to rearrange your face if they ever meet you ? And will some wing nut write a guide praising these oversize rubber bands as "better than the name brands" ?
A: Definitely !
