Homemade Dog Food Recipes
With the recent scare of tainted pet food products, more and more owners are choosing to make their dogs homemade food.
Here are a few recipes I found for making your dog a great homemade meal:
Potted Sweet Potatoes, Carrots, and Chicken (this recipe is good for dogs and even people)-Makes 4 servings. Recipe is from the Feb. 2007 issue Every Day with Rachel Ray.
1 container (32 ounces) chicken broth
1 cup apple cider
4 whole peppercorns
2 whole cloves
1 bay leaf
3 (6 ounce) boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1 1/2 in. chunks.
Sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1 1/2 in chunks and 1 pound baby carrots.
Salt to taste.
To season broth: In large sauce pan over medium high heat, combine broth, cider, peppercorns, cloves and bay leaf. Cover and bring to boil.
To cook chicken and vegetables: Reduce heat. Add chicken, sweet potatoes and carrots. Simmer for 20 minutes or until carrots are tender and chicken is cooked.
To serve: Spoon out and discard peppercorns, bay leaf, and cloves. Season with salt. Cool slightly before feeding to pets.
