1st off I feel like everyone should feel safe in there own home and its this secure feeling that determines what kind of security system you need. What you need in a security system depends on your level of security - Are you worried when your home or when your away, maybe both. DONT LET the sales rep determine what you need - remember he/she makes more on the sale by selling extra equipment.

Lets talk about Sales Reps

#1) He/She should be licensed to sell Security Systems in the state that you live in - if he has passed his states test he will also have been finger printed and had a background check done before his/hers license was ever granted. And he must provide his Burglary Alarm License upon request by the homeowner.

#2) Most Alarm company's pay their sales teams straight commission - if they dont sell they dont get paid. So anytime you feel like the sales rep is being pushy or coming on to strong simply ask him to slow down and explain things better or yet ask him to leave - and call the company and ask for a different Sales rep to come out. Dont punish the company due to a misguided or over zealous salesman.

#3)  ALWAYS get more than one quote on an alarm system, and be up front with the salesman that is what your doing - in most cases the salesman will give you his best offer if he knows your going to get more than just his quote.

The Alarm System

#1) One of the best ways to make sure you get a good deal on a home security system is to carefully evaluate the companies you're interested in buying from. Look for stability and a well-established reputation: you can even walk around your neighborhood and take note of which security companies are popular and ask your neighbors what their experience has been.

#2)  A door contact is a door contact and a motion detector is a motion detector- each company may use different manufactory to make their equipment, but it's basically the same due to that EVERY manufactory has to use the same Laws and specs when designing and manufacturing the equipment

$$$$

#1) Try and stay with a national company like Brinks Home Security or ADT, they both have Move programs - both provide some kind of warrenty on the system. I'm not saying that a local company isnt any good - its just that local companies generally charge a high price to install the system with a low monitoring rate per month - where the two national companies have a low or no install fee and a moderate monthly monitoring rate.

Several things to know - If they try and charge you for a ACTIVATION FEE insist on having that waived - for its simply a fluff and isnt needed.

Some companies will try to get you to do a bank draft or credit card draft - again if you dont wish to do that insist on not doing it and they will mail you a bill each month. I know BRINKS will allow you to be billed monthly and in most cases ADT will chagre you $1.00 to be invoiced monthly.

Check the BBB on each company that you have coming out to your home - you will find some companies dont always do what the say they will do - and the BBB  is a great place to try and find out information.

Once you have your system installed PLEASE do a system TEST on it each week and if not atleast each month - the test will let you know if there is a problem plus it will let you know that your system is actually being monitored. I have seen a few companies sell alarm systems - collect the monthly monitoring fees  and yet that client was never monitored by a monitoring company

ABout ME

I have been selling Security systems for past 5 years and have worked in sales for past 20 years - I have seen a lot of good people get scammed by bad Alarm companies-

Remember your not buying an alarm system your buying CUSTOMER SERVICE, go with the company that you feel can provide peace of mind along with great customer service
