Hollywood Undead - My Guide to Hollywood Undead
The internet revolution has made it possible for numerous unsigned bands to build a following and get their music heard around the world. One such band is known as Hollywood Undead. Although the band is not signed to a major label, they have created significant online buzz through downloadable versions of their songs and music videos. The band mixes numerous styles of music, including hip-hop, hardcore, and metal to create their original sound.
Based out of Los Angeles, the band was initially the creation of musicians who go by the name J-Dog and Tha Producer. In fact, little is officially known about the band, as one of their trademarks is to wear various hockey masks, hiding their true identities. Regulars of the Los Angeles club scene, the two got together with five others to create the Hollywood Undead. Through the clever use of the Internet, they were able to rapidly draw attention to their music, expanding their reputation beyond the Los Angeles area.
How did an unsigned band get such a following? Within a day of making their songs available online, they attracted several dozens of visitors. Soon this number grew to hundreds, then thousands. Within a few weeks, Hollywood Undead was getting over 4,000 downloads a day, signifying that people had taken notice.
Showmanship plays a part in the band's appeal. Although their faces aren't visible behind their masks, they play up the image of partying street kids that enjoy a good time. Their rebellious lyrics and funky beats seem to have struck a chord with certain fans. Demand for an official release from the band has grown and a number of items such as pendants with the band's picture are now available for purchase.
