These notes and tips have been taken from my supplier's website as to ways to use the Fantasy Film and Fiber that I sell in my ebay store. Since I buy from them, I have permission to use these hints and tips (what I've done is added my own advice and comments to their instructions in parentheses). If anyone has any questions after reading this guide, please contact me thru the ebay message system. There are also similar instructions on each package of Film and Fiber. Some of these instructions are important for the quality of your end product. I have used all of these suggestions in some of my art, such as the dragonflies that I've had listed previously in my store (which currently are no longer available until I have a chance to make some more). Please pay attention to the final instruction!!!
INSTRUCTIONS FOR CREATING FLAT SHEETS: Set Teflon coated iron to medium or polyester setting not absolutely necessary if you use a piece of Teflon-coated protector along with the parchment paper....I used a piece of old Teflon-coated ironing board cover that I'd saved, which works just as well). Place three to four layers of film or a small amount of fibers on parchment paper. Lay another piece of parchment or non-stick pressing cloth on top. Press with iron firmly for 3-4 seconds (package recommends up to 10 seconds, but I've found that this is too long! It doesn't take long to melt the stuff!). Lift parchment to reveal a totally unique sheet of fabric! The more layers /fibers you melt together, the stronger the fabric sheet. You can die cut it, use a hand punch or scissors (or you can stamp it, too, as I did with the dragonflies; then cut the design out and cover it with glitter as I did). Soon you will be able to predict the outcome of the bonding procedure, allowing you to create colors and textures you never dreamed of before.
3-DIMENSIONAL BONDING: Try using a heat tool or a candle flame. Crunch film into a shape, like a heart, or make a fiber sheet as above, hold with tweezers and bring sheet close to heat source until it has melted into the desired shape! Be careful not to over heat (because it doesn't take long to get results!).
CREATE TEXTURE: Create interesting patterns by firmly heat pressing three film layers or a small amount of fibers onto an un-inked (or even inked will work too) art rubberstamp or another textured surface such as lace with parchment paper between film and iron.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Too much heat/dwell time/pressure will cause film/fiber to become more coppery, or a loss of color may occur and film may bubble or melt away (or all of the above and you end up with an ugly mess!). Colors change with heat (and it doesn't take much either!). Fantasy Film and Fiber fuses to itself and to each other only. Use with Art Glitter and Designer Dries Clear Adhesive for endless possibilities (of which I also have in my ebay store)!
For tutorials on how to make fairy wings with the Fantasy Film, either check with your clay groups that you are in to see if they have any or just Google Fantasy Film wing tutorials....you will get a HUGE selection to check out as time allows! I have tried several of these tutes from both areas! Have fun!!
