Singing Bowls
Are a type of resting gong that has been around for centuries, mostly in the countries of Nepal, India, China, and Japan. Singing bowl artisans exist in Vietnam, Bhutan, Korea, Sikkim, Burma, Mongolia, and the Stans. Singing Bowls can be made of various alloys from 2 to 14 different metals. Some of the biggest myths are that they were made in Tibet by monks or Lamas, that they were made from a special secret 7 metal alloy, and that Tibetans brought them across the Himalayas to India and Nepal due to the Chinese occupation since 1950. These are all mistruths, used to sell the product to misinformed buyers. The majority of Singing Bowls offered for sale today have been made in the last 20 years, they are not antiques or centuries old. Any bowl with etchings on the outside or inside have been made in the past 10 years.
