I was just in the market for a high def big screen and did tons of research. I figured I could give my opinion if anyone's interested.
You have to decide two important things first. Are you going to hang it on the wall, and what size are you interested in. Once you can answer both of these questions, you'll have an easier time.
In my case, I was not going to hang it on the wall, so I did not want to pay extra for the 'thin-ness' of the TV. I bought a 50" DLP.
1080p is the latest technology so make sure your tv has nothing less than this. Plus make sure it has a least to HDMI inputs. You may not use the inputs right now, but down you road you'll be glad you have them.
If you do want 'thin-ness' on a tv, either Plasma or LCD are good. Usually the rule of thumb is 42" or smaller, get an LCD. Larger than 42", get a Plasma. Or you can be like me and get a DLP, which is cheaper than either one.
Regardless of what style of TV, make sure it's a least 1080p and 2 HDMI inputs!!!!!!!!!!!
