Hermes issued "Les Zebres II", a detail from a Robert Dallet design, in 2004. This was another relatively simple looking design that was quickly faked and will continue to appear on Ebay for many years as it recycles through estate clearances. Please click on the YES button below if you have found this Guide useful as it will help more people to see it.
The fakes appear to be photo accurate at first sight, but the colours are usually completely wrong. So if you have read any of my other Guides it may be a surprise to know that in this case these awful pink zebras below are genuine! Don't you just love all the exceptions?! We will get to why it is genuine in a moment...
GENUINE....................................................................................................................
FAKE..................................................... the last fake below also features in the Care Labels Guide.
The zebra noses and stripes must be the same colour. The shading under the zebra must NOT be the same colour as the background.......
So this is a FAKE with the blue nose.... and this pink one GENUINE, with same colour stripes...
(See above how they have saved on colours by running the background into the body to create the shading on the FAKE.)
This is a "runny nose" FAKE. ......... and this blue and orange combination is Genuine.
The scarf should also have the title "Les Zebres II" just below the border lower left, and Hermes Paris to the lower right....
.... and these are printed in either a darker version of the border colour or white on the darker colours but only black on the white bordered version.
It should be noted that there is at least one genuine special edition version of this scarf with the title replaced by "Beastly Feast - Zoo Atlanta - 2006".
The colour combinations are not so important but these two simple RULE are:
1) Zebra noses and stripes should be same colour. Black stripes with blue or white nose - FAKE.
2) Shading on animals same colour as background - FAKE.
Do look at all the other factors, including the reputation of the Seller, have they sold many of the same design or others from the list of fakes. Check whether or not they are Hermes Experts...OR... honest but naive Estate Clearance Specialists! Ask for photos of the title and Hermes Paris if they are not already in the listing.
The details that should be seen on a genuine scarf are shown in my guide on Zebres - Part II.
Have a look at some of my other Guides via this Index Link. And see Care Labels and Labels on FAKES if you are not sure why the care label is important.

Now is the time to click the YES button! Thanks.
