This Ships in Bottles design by Pierre Peron was produced by Hermes in 1960 as "Bouteilles a la Mer"... although the title does not appear on the scarf. I have never seen an original issue scarf. Hermes re-issued it in 2005 and the market was immediately flooded with fakes. These "replicas" as still available from the Far East at a fraction of the cost of the genuine Hermes scarf. And the fakes come in FAKE Hermes orange box too! These are very hard to tell apart from the genuine boxes from photos alone. You need to know what the genuine scarf should look like to avoid paying designer prices for a cheap counterfeit. Please click on the YES button below if you have found this guide helpfull as it will help more people to see it.
Genuine..............................................Genuine.............................................
It is very hard to tell genuine from fake without looking at the details.............................................................
Genuine...see different colour in floats........ FAKE......floats same colour as rope.
Genuine labels can be either black or white....signature is on the float....... floats are multicoloured and almost 3D.
FAKES.....Hermes Paris block printed in single colour ...signature has been moved......poor quality print with few colours.
So
1) Ask for close up pictures of the details if they are not provided.
2) Check that there are several colours used on the floats.
3) Check the quality of the print.
If you are not provided with enough detail to make this assessment then do not bid on this scarf...it is as easy as that!
