The general rule is that a Hermes scarf should have an artist's signature,
a copyright symbol and a title. There are exceptions to the title rule...
Xavier de Poret was a well known artist designing scarves for Hermes in the 1950's. The majority of his work are artist's sketchbook-style studies of dogs, horses and birds. All his work is signed with his bold X de Poret signature and Hermes Paris in the bottom corners. Most of his animal designs have no titles with the exception of the Pekinois below and Monarch, a study of a dog's head. Many of these designs have been reissued in later years and are exceeding popular with collectors, so it is a surprise that so far they have escaped the attention of the fakers.
Here is his signature... and some of his animal classics....
Les Pies Les Tourterelles 1956 Les Mesanges
Les Poulains 1960 Les Biches 1958 Les Reynards
Chiens de Chasse Les Teckels Les Pekinois (title is centre bottom border)
Poret also designed A Propos des Bottes, a study of riding boots, frequently reissued and with a title.
