Hermes produced the "Samourai" design by Zoe Pauwels in 1991. It is not particularly common on Ebay. However there seem to be a lot of vintage fakes appearing, coming "from the estate of a wealthy lady" and such. They are often listed by people who have no experience of Hermes products who take the Hermes Paris at face value. Fortunately these fakes are very crude and easy to detect even from small blurry photographs.
The genuine scarf has only one cartouche on the bottom border saying Samourai Hermes Paris and it is signed Zoe in the bottom right corner.
The fakes a) do not have a title, b) just say Hermes on the bottom border and again inverted in the top border c) and often have Hermes Paris block printed in the bottom right corner.
You can immediately tell that these below are FAKE, even from blurry pictures because of the equal sized cartouche in the top and bottom borders.
If there are more photographs too, then the crude detail is even more obvious..................
GENUINE....................................and simplistic FAKE.....................
So the rules are easy:
1) No title = FAKE. (If the listing is called Shogun, Japanese Horseman, etc then most likely FAKE.) Hermes at top and bottom = FAKE.
2) Hermes Paris in bottom right = FAKE.
Remember that twelve high resolution photographs do not make the item genuine. Look at the Seller. Treat the item with caution if the Seller has no history of dealing in Hermes products. They may be perfectly honest, and just ignorant. But do not pay designer prices for cheap fakes through your own ignorance of the product.
