I have a large orange and beige tabby (Garfield Type) and a toy terrier mix (Odie Type) with short hair.
I live in an area of the south that's known for ticks and other things that infect your four legged family members.
To prevent problems I purchased a well known brand of cat and dog shampoo and flea and tick collars. I quickly found out that my dog was extremely allergic to the ingredients used in the product. After several trips to the vet for shots and allergy medicine (benadryl) and an unexpected bill.
I began researching natural ingredients to use on my pets and I have found the following combinations that are harmless to the pets but effective in getting rid of flea, ticks, mites, yeast infections.
1. combine the following ingredients to form an effective Flea and Tick Powder:
1 cup Corn starch , 1 teaspoon of each, peppermint oil or powder, cinnamon oil or powder, lemon grass oil or powder, clove oil or powder, thyme oil or powder, calcium salt. Some use a little boric acid powder added to the mix, I suggest using the above first. ( items can be found in the health food section and the vitamin/supp;supplement section of large discount stores)
2. oil that you can rub into the coat of you pet: Flea and Tick natural remedy
1/2 cup of mineral oil, add sprigs of fresh rosemary ( found at many garden stores) and grape seed oil (found in capsule form in the vitamin section of large discount stores and health food stores)
3. effective flea treatment for dogs and short hair cats:
INFORMATION REMOVED
4. yeast infections (dogs ears):
plain rubbing alcohol (to reduce the amount of bacteria in the area) and plain white vinegar (vinegar stops the reproduction of yeast). Apply this mixture with either q-tip or clean cotton ball. This treatment can be mixed together and put in a spray bottle. ( items can be found in the local supermarket)
