Selling on Ebay can be overwhelming. How much do I charge for my items? What is the best way to ship? Should I get a store or not? Often times we find ourselves on our own trying to figure out alot of these things, that is until we make a mistake and it is pointed out to us. This can be embarrasing or even hurtful depending on how the individual informing you goes about letting you know. I thought these tips would be extremely helpful for new sellers!
1. Check and Double Check Shipping Costs! When using Calculated Shipping be aware that what you see is not what everyone else sees, so it may look right on your end but not on the other persons depending on where they are. Example: You put a book up for sale and the shipping is showing $3.43 on your end (reasonable) but others on the opposite side of the U.S. are showing $12.00, this is more than anyone is willing to pay for shipping. So be sure to check for the best possible way to ship, sometimes Priority Mail is the best way to go for heavier items. Use flat rate shipping for items that you have multiples of DVD's, Games, CD's things like that. Just be sure to be fair, you may add a small handling charge if you choose too but make sure the charges are reasonable. You will drive more sales!2. Keep a variety of items! The more variety the more interest from a wide variety of buyers!
3. Check the going rate before pricing! It is always best to check what others are charging for an item before pricing it. If your items are close or under others costs you will have more business than if you unknowingly overprice your items. It is well worth taking the time to check before listing the item. **Remember People are Looking For A Deal!** Keep in mind if you are offering the same thing but it has extras, of course price it accordingly but be sure to give a detailed description of the differences so the buyers looking are aware why the prices are different.
4 HONESTY!!! Honesty is always the best policy especially when selling to others. Make sure your item descriptions are accurate! If you are worried about a DVD with some scratches, say it has scratches. If it is bent or torn , let the buyers know. You want your feedback to stay at a high number, and nothing will make a seller look bad quicker than a Buyer feeling that the Seller (you) was less than honest with the description of the item. Be accurate, inspect items while you are listing, so you can look at it and refer back to it while listing, this way no detail is missed.
5. Treat Buyers How You Want To Be Treated!!! This means answer their questions, ship their purchase quickly and package it safely. If there is a holdup making shipping later than anticipated, contact them and let them know. A Buyer is more likely to get angry when you tell them nothing and a couple weeks have gone by and still they don't have their purchase. Take the extra time to make sure the items are packed accordingly, bad packaging does effect whether or not the Buyer decides to come back or not.
6. Should I get a Store? Hmm, to each his own, some prefer not to and others prefer to have the store. I have spoke to those with and without a store and both have said that they had about the same amount of sales with or without. However, owning a store does allow you to use features that non-store owners are unable to access.
