Patches or (cloth) badges are pieces of colored cloth. They come in many shapes, sizes, colors, styles, & designs. They been made for places, events, organizations, and awards. Most may never have much value, while others have become extremely collectable and are highly prized. Many patches are sold each day on Ebay. An even higher number of patches are listed daily. There are many categories, espeically under collectibles, on Ebay where patch collectors search, for whatever particular area meets their collecting needs, including: military, law enforcement, NASA, Boy Scouts, & Girl Scouts.
Helpful hints for to increase the likelihood of your patch selling:
- Always post a picture of the item. This is a great way for others to identify the patch.
- What is the patch for? Is it for a military or police unit? Is it from a particular place, such as a tourist destination or an amusement park? Was it for an organization's activity? Be specific as possible in the title, listing description, & item category. Take some time to study out how similiar patches in that category are listed, as well as priced out. That is how I learned to sell patches on Ebay. Some particular collecting areas use specific terms & abbreviations to identify & classify patches.
- Describe the patch's specifics in the listing description. Some items collectors look for: type of patch (what is made out of), the words on the patch (especially names & dates), shape (round, square, rectangle, triangle, oval, arrowhead, etc.), size (small or jacket sized? you can also include dimensions), background type (fully embroidered, twill, silkscreened, woven, felt, etc.), background color, border type (cut or rolled edge), border color, lettering color, backing type (cloth, wax, paper, or plastic), and any unusual characteristics.
- If possible (due to knowledge) also mention if the patch is from the actual organization or event or if the patch is a reproduction or fake.
- Be especially sure to include the condition of the patch. Is it mint or in used condition? Mint means it has never been sewn or washed; does not have a pinhole, or staple holes; no glue on the back, the plastic back (if it has one) is not peeling or has not been peeled off; & there are no smudges, stains, or watermarks. If it has been used, describe how, such as sewn on a uniform or blanket, or glued to a display. Listing the condition helps all buyers in making a proper bidding or purchasing decision and may prevent some confusion upon receiving the patch.
Have fun & good luck!
