Helen Wang- A Guide to Helen Wang & Fashion
Bursting onto the fashion scene in 1995, Helen Wang offered a surprising mix of fun and femininity in her collections. Wang graduated from the prestigious Parsons School of Design, and immediately set out to establish color, cut, and fit as her trademarks. In her collections, you will often find new twists on traditional ladylike outfits.
Wang's knowledge of fabrics informs many of her design choices, as she has greater range and flexibility than many designers. Helen Wang entered fashion with the desire to end the trend of laid-back, slouchy couture that defined the late ‘80s and early '90. Along with her ability to create well-fit women's clothing, this ideal has informed her collections ever since, especially her dresses.
In keeping with her desire to blend traditional style with contemporary looks, Helen Wang recently introduced a chiffon Meegan dress. Like a classic dress of decades ago, this silk chiffon dress is made for an elegant night out. Unlike a traditional chiffon dress, however, Wang's dress is snug and form fitting at the top and then flows into a sophisticated skirt that doesn't poof out.
Helen Wang's stylish looks have been featured on television shows like Sex and the City, Charmed and Friends. She recently introduced a new children's line named after her daughter, Mina. The children's line features such classics as a plaid pea coat and contemporary additions like cashmere pullovers. The Helen Wang Home Collection puts Helen's famous patterns onto elegant satin pillow throws.
