I've been having a problem with my wifi signal in my house for years. I have a multi level house with steel beams, and lots of brick and glass. I also have dsl service which comes in through my basement. As a result the signal has to go from the basement through the entire house. The signal was either weak or non-existent in most of the house. The problem compounded when my Verizon modem died. They no longer have a stand alone modem, only combo router/modems, which meant I had to abandon my old router which at least had a signal strong enough to cover most of the house. The Verizon was too weak to defend itself. On the first floor the best I could get was a low signal.
I saw an auction for the Hawking HSB2 WiFi Signal Booster. I was familiar with the brand, but not the product. After receiving it I plugged it in. The process was extremely simple, although the instructions didn't cover using it on the router itself. Simply unscrew the antenna on the router and replace it with the wire for the HSB2. Screw the other end of the wire to the HSB2 and plug in the power supply. Now I'm getting an excellent or very good signal where it used to be low or very low. I'm also getting coverage in every room in the house. In the past we couldn't get coverage on the second floor, now the signal is solid. Also I get a good signal outside on my decks and patio. I wouldn't even consider that before. The unit cost me $61, which seems to be about the going auction price. Retail is around $100. My understanding is that it also acts as a filter from wireless phones and other signals. This was a simple solution to an annoying problem and much less of a hassle than trying to set up an access point. This is also going to allow me to use my wifi printer which was always losing a signal before.
