I have lived in Hawaii for most of my life and I really want everyone who visits here to enjoy themselves so that when they go back home, their memories will be full of fun, sun and relaxation. Unfortunately, there are some, very small amount of people who prey on tourist. This is accomplished by scouring scenic lookouts, beaches, and tourist attractions for obvious rental cars. Theives have been known to watch people as they get out their vehicles and walk away, even for a few seconds. They approach the car and with a screwdriver pop the lock or gain entry with a glass punch. They then search the car and take what attracts them.
The best advice myself or anyone else can give, enjoy yourselves but don't let your guard down. Don't leave valuables in the car such as cameras and wallets. If your traveling with your cell phone, call 911 if you see anyone suspicious hanging around.
