Harry and the Potters - The Harry and the Potters Band
Harry and the Potters was formed in 2002 as the brainchild of two brothers: Paul and Joe DeGeorge. Initially the band was formed when the rock show that the two brothers had planned fell through when the talent failed to show. In need of entertainment, the brothers spent an hour writing seven different songs and a half hour practicing them. That night, the band Harry and the Potters was born.
As the name of the band obviously suggests, they are a tribute to the successful Harry Potter books. In fact, all of their songs are about various scenes, events, and characters from the books. Over the years, the band has cultivated a following and makes regular appearances in libraries, bookstores, and theaters across the country. A big part of their message is to promote reading, imagination, and fun.
When playing, both brothers dress up as Harry Potter. The eldest, Paul, represents Harry in his seventh year at Hogwarts, while Joe represents him in his fourth year. What started as a fun joke has developed into a real touring band that has built a following of people who enjoy their punk rock take on Harry's adventures. With songs such as "Cornelius Fudge Is an Ass," one could argue that they are even making political statements about Harry's magical world.
Currently, Harry and the Potters has released three different albums. Their first, self-titled release, includes 18 songs, while the second, "Voldemort Can't Stop the Rock," features slightly edgier music. Their most recent release, "A Magical Christmas of Magic," includes a number of seasonal songs, celebrating the holidays, Harry Potter style.
