The Harry Potter Activity Kits have been honored by The Oppenheim Toy Portfolio and Parenting For High Potential Magazine! They are a great item for any fan or collector. The activities within are a great way to get children to enjoy learning about subjects like science. They can easily be used at home or in the classroom. I have sold these to many teachers who consider these to be wonderful teaching aids and to a few camp directors who said their campers loved them! Parents find these hands on activities to be a great addition to their homeschool curriculum.
According to the packages, this product is suitable for “Wizards & Witches ages 8 and up.” This product conforms to ASTM F-963. ASTM is the American Society for Testing and Materials. F-963 is the Consumer Safety Specification on Toy Safety.
These kits were originally sold through a book club and were not available to the general public. Troll began producing these kits in 2001 and they are no longer being made by the manufacturer. Because of this, some of these kits are difficult to find. Others are no longer in existence. The club charged 12.95 +S&H per activity kit. Note: I have seen these same exact kits sold for even more simply because they were taken out of the bags and put into "Harry Potter" boxes.
Please be careful to read full descriptions before purchasing these items. The conditions for the kits should be given. Because of how hard to find some of these items are, certain kits come inside of packages that have been returned to the manufacturer at some point. Since the contents inside of the bag are still new, these kits are in sellable condition. These kits are perfectly useable, but as a buyer, you should be told first. Also, I have seen some listings that tell you that you will need to purchase some of the things that should come in the kits. Below, in the descriptions section, I tell you what should come in each kit. Yes, you will need to have some common household items that are not included. Just make sure that the person selling the kit does so with all the things I mention here.
The original ad sent with one of the packages was “In this spellbinding kit, your child will perform mesmerizing experiments that will take them into the world of Harry Potter. Along with an illustrated, step-by-step activity guide, they’ll receive special (and safe) items to complete each activity. Each activity is fun and educational!”
Every activity kit comes with lab binder pages that describe the experiments that can be done with the included materials. They also explain the reasons why each experiment worked. This is a highly informative booklet for students of all ages! The kits were broken up into two different series. The first is the Spells & Potions series. This series was introduced as a complement to the first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Each package (except for the first) contains a lenticular card featuring a picture on one side and activity information on the other. Only the side with the photo is the "moving image" looking side. The second series is the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: Spells & Potions II series. Each activity begins with a quote from the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets novel. The page numbers (of the paperback) are given for reference. These packages also include a Witch & Wizard-in-training Notes Poster that has a picture on the front and an area on the back for note taking.
I have searched high and low for these kits. They are extremely hard to find. If anyone reading this guide knows where to find more, please let me know! I would really appreciate it. As far as I can tell, there were 16 kits. I have 15 of them available. This number is based on what I have seen. If someone who is reading this knows of another kit not mentioned here, please let me know. The kits that I have seen are:
