The autograph of Harry Blackstone Jr. is treasured by collectors, because he was one of the most popular Magicians of the late 20th Century.  His magic signature is found in a variety of formats, including index cards, photos, typed letters, programs and posters. 

In all my years studying his autograph, I have never seen a forgery, an autopen, a fake stamped signature or a printed signature.  But I'm still going to keep looking!

Blackstone By Mail

I know first-hand that Blackstone Jr. was nice about signing autographs.  I wrote him an autograph request letter in early 1997.  He responded with a signed typed letter dated February 21, 1997, on letterhead and an autographed photo (see below). 

I love the photo image, which shows him in a unique vulnerable gaze.  Sadly, he died a few months later, May 14, 1997, never to share his wonderful magic again.  Here's another example (below) of a typed and signed letter he sent to my wife's Mom, Jackie.

Blackstone on eBay

Blackstone Jr.'s autograph is found on eBay.  Here's one category I often look: Buy > Collectibles > Fantasy, Mythical & Magic > Magic.  You can also do Buy category searches using phrases such as "Blackstone Jr. autograph", "Blackstone Jr. autographed", "Blackstone Jr. signature" and "Blackstone Jr. signed".

Here are some examples of his autograph I have purchase in auction through eBay.

On November 12, 2004, I paid $36.53 plus $5.95 shipping for a Blackstone Jr. signed "Magic Hands" poster from eBay seller vintageforless; there were 4 bids and 71 page views.  On November 28, 2004, I paid $40.01 as a buy-it-now plus $5.95 shipping from the same seller, for a similar signed poster.  I guess I wanted an extra!

On November 28, 2004, I paid in auction $9.99 plus $5.00 shipping for a signed 5" x 7" black and white photo from eBay seller buymycollectibles (see below).  There was one bid for this item, which is in used condition with a signature in blue ink pen on the bottom of the photo.

On February 19, 2006, I purchased a similar 5" x 7" black and white photo signed by Blackstone Jr. for $13.15 in auction, plus $5.00 shipping, from eBay seller autographgallery1; there were 2 bids for this item, with a signature in faded orange ink pen on the bottom of the photo (see below).

On July 21, 2005, I purchased in auction a Blackstone lot which included the signed photo below.  I paid $75.01 plus shipping from eBay seller jsm10.  This lot included a signed & inscribed photo (below), a photo signed in initials by Blackstone Sr., and two Blackstone Jr. programs.  There were five bids and 60 page views.

Here's some more Blackstone autographs that I purchased from autograph dealers before I discovered eBay.  I can't quite remember where I got them.  I collected so much, at one time, that my mental capacity was far exceeded by my file box capacity. 

The signed photo below features his wife Gay Blackstone in the Buzz Saw Illusion.  She's a really nice person too, and very generous with her autograph.  She's still alive.  You can find her at the Magic Castle in Hollywood where she holds an honored position of the Board of Directors for the Academy of Magical Arts.  I heard her lecture once, and she was fascinating.
