The 2006 Tanker Boxcar is the first piece in a NEW series of pewter train pieces.
The new tanker, engine and caboose are a different scale than those pieces released in the past.
Here's a shot of the new series engine, tanker and caboose shown with
previous series pieces: quality billboard and panhead.
NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE IN SIZE.
Many sellers are incorrectly listing the tanker as just another car in the series that was started in 2001. I wrote this guide so people won't be disappointed when their Tanker boxcar arrives and it lifts the Panhead's rear wheels in the air (and is significantly wider). My suggestion is to get the new starter set too and just start another train with the new engine and caboose!
Here are some details:
Previous pieces were specifically advertised as coordinating with prior years. These are not so advertised. In fact, Harley is very clear in their dealership catalog:
The new boxcars are dated but not numbered. They are "open editions". They are not limited to 2,500 pieces as the previous series was. (Picture shows Panhead next to Tanker.)
The width of the boxcar has been changed. (Here's the Panhead next to the Tanker on their sides.)
The height of the docking pins are different so the two series will not mesh well together.
(Picture shows the Panhead between the new engine and caboose.)
Remember, the scale of this years pieces is different than previous years!
Since the tanker begins a new series, Harley also released a new version of the starter set including heavier and more intricate engine and caboose.
Retail prices went up about 65% from last year. I guess Harley saw what these things were going for on eBay!
