Did you know that 82% of people wait till the last week of October to plan what they want to be for Halloween? This normally results in getting the leftovers the day before Halloween of the costume shop... or something homemade.... yuck! So, in this issue I wanted to take some time and go over some options and ideas to dress up both you and your house for Halloween.

 

Let's start with the obvious. The most popular creature to be on Halloween is the Vampire. But most people simply don't do it right. You ALL know what I am talking about! You see the guy with the slicked back Eddie Munster hair, cape and that downright foolish looking medallion. LOL ok Bella you haven't scared anyone since the 30's! And don't get me started on the cheasy teeth and ultra white clown make-up!

 

Todays Vampire is much more subtle. You don't just want scary, you want sexy. Let's face it. Vampires are sexy! There is a certain draw... the danger, immortality.

 

Starting off with the most popular look for the vampire. It's all about the teeth and eyes. Forget the capes and all that garbage. Popular looks are like Underworld style or Vampires from Twilight.

 

 

Vampfangs has offered many styles of fangs over the years. And truth be told it is all about personal preference. But I do have some recomendations. Most people email me asking whether they should get the Scarecrow fangs in natural or subtle. The general rule is if you have large teeth get the naturals. If your teeth are a little smaller get the subtles. The mistake is thinking that its all about length. It's Not! It's about the fit of the cap on your tooth. The length is a by product of the fit.

 

The benefit of Scarecrow fangs is they are caps that fit over just one single tooth. And you can choose any tooth as long as the cap fits snug! Having the fang on a single tooth instead of a whole mouthpiece results in a clear speaking voice and comfort.

 

 

FX contact lenses really make the costume. You will find people simply staring at you when you are wearing FX lenses. And just like the fangs choosing lenses is a matter of personal preference and you can get a dramatic look without spending a ton of cash. For example: If you want a Selene from Underworld look the Aqua or Blue Immortal lenses would be perfect! Looking for a twilight look? The Amber Immortals are for you. Of course the Blackouts, Red Vampires and Black Wolf lenses are also a popular choice! Lenses if cared for properly can last a full year. And if you buy them and dont use them, sealed in the vial they are good for years!

 

 

Ok, so we have already covered that clown white is bad... BAD! The goal is to pale out your skin not make it glow in the dark. My favorite way is either with graftobian creme foundation or Manic Panic has a couple items that work very well. The goth white goes on light and the virgin pressed powder is a perfect finisher. When using items like creme foundation to pale use sparingly! Keep rubbing it into your face lightly until your skintone dulls out a bit. remenber, the focus will be on teeth and eyes.

 

Next ( for the ladies... or... well... ok ) lipstick. I recommend a deep blood red. Graftobian makes a color called Savage that is absolutely amazing! Ok guys... you can use this too. But just a tad to bring some color out on the lips... NOT TOO MUCH or you will look like a bloodsucking dragqueen! If you are going for the twilight look a little lavendar eyeshadow works miracles. One question I get all the time is about blood. Some people like a tiny blood drip, and I mean tiny around the mouth. That's ok, but in my opinion it just doesn't make any sense. You are an immortal vampire, alive for hundreds of years... and you havent learned how to eat without getting food all over your face?

 

 

Hey Liberacci! Put away the ruffles and capes! Movies like Interview with a Vampire did make those styles come back for the vampire for awhile. But can you imagine a modern day Vampire wearing all that? No, simple, elegant, and black. Thats all you need. GQ with fangs for the men. Ladies get to take another approach. A little more adventurous. like Kate Beckinsale in Underwold. More of the hunter. Go for the tigh fit clothes and high boots. Watch the guys around you melt.
