Hair pieces are offered in a wide variety of styles and with synthetic and human hair. Human hair pieces are more expensive for obvious reasons and can be styled like your own hair. Many stylists will clean and set these. All you have to do is drop them off and pick them up ready to put on and for a small fee they will put it on for you. Synthetic are much cheaper and vary greatly in quality. Some of the new synthetics are very hard to tell from real hair, but must be maintained very differently. styling is limited. They can be part of updos and some come with wires for wrapping. Most come with basic butterfly clips that add that perfect pony. The advantage here is you can afford a different piece for the different looks, long layers, short bobs, curly or straight. You do need specially designed cleaners and conditioners. Regulars sprays can be used, just be careful of build up. DO NOT USE SHAMPOO & CONDITIONERS designed for human hair and exposure to heat distorts and melts these pieces.

The clips vary greatly, like stated earlier, butterfly is the easiest. The single and double clip with string are pretty easy and hide and hold well. The extension type are complicated and very difficult to do yourself. The instructions will tell you how easy it is and that it can be done in "minutes". Most professinals won't do these, just read the instructions available online and you will see that they are almost impossible to understand.

Updos are made very easy with pieces specifically designed for this use and again for a nice variety, a full wig in synthetic is reasonable enough to allow you to have several and many offered by Paula Young, Hair U Wear and others are practically impossible to tell from human hair. The human hair piece is still the staple for those who wish to style their pieces. Be careful of some of the plastic imports, the term that you get what you pay for comes to mind. Bottom line- keep it simple and you will get the real look that you want and invest in the correct products to care for your synthetics. They are ver reasonable and will last a very long time.

CAUTION: Do not use heat on synthetic pieces. They will damage period. You can blow dry with cool air but it is best to air dry overnight. Special shampoo and conditioners MUST be used on these. Most hair sprays can be used and the specifically designed shampoos for synthetic hair will remove build up. But there are no option to the shampoo and conditioners that are for synthetic hair. The chemical make up of these pieces is not the same as human hair no matter how much they look like real hair you just can't use the same products. It will ruin your synthetic piece.
