  HACIENDA by Laurel

Laurel Pottery takes the shapes of their Mariposa line, reglaze them in 6 new colors (5 seen in photo - 6th color uncertain, believe it may have been white or lime green.), and viola! Hacienda. or California Hacienda.  Little known.  Not published in any book I know of.  1947.  Two styles of handles are observed,  (see Mariposa for photo).  Some of these shapes, with (some of) these glazes were found in soap boxes.  (See discussion of Parma.)   Compare discussion of Mariposa, which predates Hacienda, shares molds or most of them at least, and was produced in pastels (and white).  Mariposa itself is little more than a continuation of Joaquin dinnerline.  History details complicated with plant changing hands, more than once, destructive fires, the war, a stint firing doll bodies for Nancy Ann, and so forth. Interesting but I'm not writing about it here.  I just want to introduce y'all to Hacienda's very existance.

Lost most photos in computer disaster. boo.  The backstamp I see most often is a trapezoid (leaning rectangle) with rounded corners with "California Hacienda" within. Many pieces not stamped.  Leaf finial is distictive feature.  Profile of bowl distinctive.  Serving bowls often seen in my own experience.

Body and glazes of these pieces are unsurprisingly similar to Joaquin products, including pieces marked Sierra Pottery, and to Pacific Arcadia.  There are close relationships connecting all these.  Anyway it is lightweight, thin, and fragile; chips easily.

This shows two HACIENDA cups maroon and cobalt compared to a stack of MARIPOSA cups:

These cups have the (presumable the earlier) style of cup handle.  We usually refere to this style as the scroll style. The [newer] handle we refere to as a ribbon style.  (The scroll style is the same style Joaquin used, again read ablout Mariposa.)  This next photo shows comparisons of handles in both Hacienda (colbalt pcs) and Mariposa (pale turquoise pcs):
