*Update-this review was written a while back, and Viking is always creating new, or updating old software, so you will want to go to the Husqvarna Website to check on features and compatability before you purchase software for your POEM. Likewise for your Operating System Software-Not all new software is compatable with all old hardware. I have no idea whether you machine will work with Windows Vista*

Do you have a POEM (VIKING HUSKYGRAM, SINGER EU, TOYOTA OR AISIN POEM) that you love-but are maintaining a Win 3.1 or older computer to use?

Husqvarna Viking has been selling software to support its embroidery machines, including the Huskygram (and other POEMS) for a number of years. With Husqvarna Customizing  version 5.2 or later, you can use the Huskygram, Singer EU or other POEM  machines in a true windows environment, and convert downloaded designs in many major formats for use with your POEM machine.

Before making an online purchase, you need to be aware of which versions will support your machine. You should be aware that most Viking software requires a "Dongle" or protective device to prevent it being pirated-if this is not included in the auction, the software will not work.

The latest release of Husqvarna Viking software will generally support all Viking embroidery machines in use when the version is issued-so if you have an older machine, you can safely purchase newer Viking software for a machine such as the Huskygram or #1+ which is no longer manufactured.

 Support for the POEM Machines is available starting with Viking System 5 Professional, which with a down-load from the Husqvarna Viking website, should support the use of 2 POEM Machines-it doesnt matter which brand.

Version 6.0 to 6.2 (VIP) does not allow for use of 2 machines, but has a number of updated features which allow you to create multi-position designs for use with the large hoop and Giant Hoop.

The latest version 7 (3D Professional) also supports direct access to the POEM machines. I have not used this version for my machine, but had a demo at my local Viking dealer. It adds some really awesome capabilities to the POEM.

Everything old is new, and newer embroidery machines are going back to the direct computer connection the POEM offered.

It is, with the faster processors and less cumbersom Windows software, almost a whole new machine. The new software will still allow you to use and edit all those CSD designs that cost you a fortune, to create Multi-Hoop designs, and to easily split  larger designs into managable parts for the POEM .
