This guide is meant to be a brief overview and critique of the HP PCS 1500 All-in-One series of printers.
The entire series consists of:
» HP PCS 1507 All-in-One
» HP PCS 1510 All-in-One
» HP PSC 1510s All-in-One
» HP PSC 1510v All-in-One
» HP PSC 1510xi All-in-One
» HP PCS 1513 All-in-One
» HP PSC 1513s All-in-One
My primary experience is with the 1510s.
These printers combine a printer, scanner and copier in one machine. For that reason they are not as efficient as are stand-alone machines. However, for the money, they are an excellent choice. Factory refurbished machines can be picked up a bargain prices. Printer cartridges are relatively inexpensive on eBay. I have only used genuine HP cartridges and have no experienced with refilled, 3rd party or refill kits. The printer uses one HP 92 black inkjet print cartridge and one HP 93 tri-color inkjet print cartridge.
I have two main criticisms of the 1500 in operation. First is the slowness of response as a copier. It seems to take an inordinately long time to make a copy. Scanning is also slow but not as slow as the copy function. The scanner produces very nice scans however. So if scan quality is an issue this may make an excellent choice.
As a B&W printer the 1500 is excellent. I don't do a lot of color printing. Unless you are making color copies daily I would not suggest this all-in-one for your use. The color cartridges quickly dry closed and need a lot of priming or cleaning to work again if they ever do. The yellow is particularly vulnerable. The only work-around for this that I have found is to save all my color copying to do at one time and afterwards expect the cartridge to dry up beyond redemption.
A print cartridge alignment page prints every time that the All-in-One is turned on or off, or when a print job is started. Although this can be particularly irritating it insures correctly aligned prints with the colors where they should be instead of the mis-registered printouts often seen. So that seems to me to be a small price to pay for accuracy.
Overall I have found this printer to be very reliable with a duty cycle of up to 5,000 prints per month.
I hope this review has been of some help to you in your decision about printers.
