I got this laptop last year and immediately fell in love with it. It was much faster than my 2 y/o Dell desktop and it's still faster than my 2 month old HP desktop. I really enjoyed this computer, until one day, when I logged off for my husband to log on and nothing happened. We ended up having to do a hard restart on it, it still didn't work. I called HP and they were great, they shipped the box ASAP and shipment to HP was prepaid by them. This was only to take 3-5 days for me to get it back, fantastic! You can even keep track of the progress on your computer on the internet. After a few days, I ended up calling them since I'd seen no updates on the internet for my laptop, they said they were still working on it. Several days later, I see a message that says they've been trying unsuccessfully to reach me...they had my email, phone and cell #s and I was home the entire time, caller ID showed nothing! Anyhow, I call them and I'm told that they've got to replace the motherboad, keyboard, and a couple of other items and it will be at MY cost...almost $900! They said the my computer was put on a program that details what's wrong with it and they found some "brown spillage" in the computer. Brown spillage...that's crazy! We don't drink coffee, we're grown adults here, how did this "spillage" get there? They said that it wasn't covered under the warranty, but if I'd had accidental protection insurance on it, that it would have been taken care of. The only reason that I had them fix the computer at such an outrageous cost for whatever they were saying was wrong with it, was because I had some important documents on the computer (lesson learned on backing up documents, pictures, etc!). I also was talked into buying the accident protection insurance, which I figure could come in handy one day (protects against "spillage", falls, breaks, etc). I found that by having an HP, you cannot just go out and buy another motherboard and all that, it's got to be HP, I was stuck. Anyhow, I got it back finally and it just doesn't work the same, I'm dealing with a slower computer now, hangups, crashes, etc now. I lost no documents over all this though. If I was smarter, I'd have just bought another one (this time not HP) for the price I paid to get it fixed. I learned that having accident protection is a wise thing (only I'm not convinced that this was "our" accident). I just wanted to warn everyone thinking of getting this or any other HP computer, it's a great computer, but please buy the accident protection insurance, back up your important documents, and realize that you can't just go out and buy innerds to fix your computer, they have to be HP.
