Let's face it. None of us want to exercise. Let me rephrase that. We want to, but we just can't get ourselves motivated. I never thought I would find myself doing it on a regular basis, but when I turned 40 and started having all types of aches and pains, I realized my body was going downhill. I knew I had to start taking better care of myself...and fast! I was extremely overweight and my eating habits were horrible. I only visited the gym about one day a year...to pay my yearly dues! Exercise was not in my vocabulary. I would often stay up late at night and watch some of those interactive exercise programs. Unfortunately, I only watched them....never participated. "This can't go on", I told myself. I made up my mind that I would really start doing something. I began with a good friend of mine and we decided we would start walking every day. I remember the first time we walked. We only went 1/2 mile and we were both huffing and puffing. We couldn't take another step. I had to call my husband at home and ask him to come pick us up at the track. While we waited we watched some of the other people and thought how effortlessly they seemed to walk. We never thought we would reach that stage. As the weeks went by we started walking longer and faster. We've been walking for many years now and we do several miles a day. The most important advice I can give you is to never give up. It will seem really hard at first, but the more your body gets used to it, the easier it gets. If you do it at least 5 days a week, it will become a habit. Believe it or not, you'll feel guilty if you miss a day. I can't even describe how much better I feel. All those aches and pains have disappeared and I have so much stamina. Needless to say, I've lost a lot of weight and I couldn't be happier. Believe me, I was the laziest person around. If I can do it, anyone can. Don't waste another day. Wake up tomorrow and get your sneakers on! You'll be so glad you did!
