This Guide will show you How To Make nice round Pom Poms with pre cut rug yarn and assemble them together to make a Furry Animal Toy
Materials:
The materials you need to get started are simple, including remnant pieces of pre cut rug yarn, either wool or polyester, that you may have left over from other latch hook rug projects, in whatever color or multicolor pieces you like. You can use packages or groups of remnant pieces that have been put together in 300 or 320 strand bunches. It is not necessary to painstakingly count them though, just approximate the size of one package. The other materials include wiggly eyes , cord weight thread or crochet thread , a yarn needle or tapestry needle, small black pre-made pom pom balls , scissors and glue. The wiggly eyes used in this example are 15 mm and have a shank on the back so that they can be both sewn and glued to be securely attached.
1) Tie the Yarn Into Small Bundles
In this step, securely tie the pieces together with a long strand of yarn reinforced with cord thread or string.
Tie the strand around the center of the yarn pieces and pull to make a nice tight knot; the bundles resemble "little hay stacks" tied in the middle. Reinforcing the yarn with cord or string helps keep the pom pom nice and firm.
2) Trim and Shape the Pom Pom
Fluff the strands to form a more round ball, and begin trimming the shaggy strands, shaping and contouring as you go along. Holding the scissors flat against the bundle helps form a smooth surface and round shape.
Finally, trim off the long yarn strand that tied the bundle together, and trim the remaining edges of the yarn to form a nice round fluffy pom pom. A single pom pom can add the finishing element to many knitted and crocheted fashion accessories.
3) Add the Eyes and Nose for the Furry Animal
Next add the wiggly eyes. Tie the cord to the first eye and pull the needle through the center of the pom pom to the other side, add the second eye and finish with a knot.
The eyes can be glued underneath with craft glue to give them more durability. The small black pom pom for the nose can be either sewn or glued on.
4) String the Pom Poms Together
With a long strand of yarn reinforced with cord thread, slip the needle through the center of one pom pom and tie a knot to hold it in place.
Add on the other pom poms one at a time and last the head and finish with another knot.

Making Two Tone Pom Poms
If you would like to make a two tone pom pom, start with equal amounts of two colors. Divide each color in half and arrange the matching colors opposite each other.
Tie the bundle securely with yarn reinforced with cord thread, fluff and begin trimming and contouring the yarn pieces into a round shape. Trim the long yarn strand that holds the bundle together so that it does not show.
Two Tone Pom Poms
Pom Poms can add finishing details not only to fashions and accessories like hats, scarves and ponchos, but also to costumes as well. Many costumes invlove making a hat, matching headpiece, or soft furry embellishments like big buttons. Clown costumes, Lady Bugs, Masquerade and Mardi Gras, Bunnies, Jesters, etc..
BTW
Pom Poms, Pom Pons and Pompoms are all variations in spelling of this same word. Pom Pom or Pom Pon, meaning a fluffy ball made from fabric, yarn or ribbon. This may be helpful to remember when reading through knitting, crocheting or sewing patterns.
