HOW TO IDENTIFY EXPLOITERS OF AMERICAN INDIAN CULTURE & CEREMONY
--- As of 2000, less than 1% of the population of Native Americans had access to a computer & the internet. You have LESS than that much chance of finding a Traditionalist, or a REAL 'Medicine Man' on the web! Think about that for a bit. Less than 1% !!! Maybe 0% is a closer guess!
--- The acknowledged 'REAL INDIANS' who do have websites may be found on UNIVERSITY or University-sponsored websites, on the LEGITIMATE RECOGNIZED Tribal web pages, or on FREE web pages owned by a Native Nation. If you don't find your author/'shaman' on one of these, chances are, s/he may be hiding something! If you find your author/'shaman's page filled up with sparkly graphics, spooky music, & wizardry, you are in the WRONG place!
---It is a FACT that true spiritual leaders & teachers will NOT venture far from their homes, their People! When you see a jet-setting 'medicine man', an 'Elder/Teacher' who is willing to book a seminar 1000 miles away,or in some foreign country, again for money, you may quite safely assume that one is a PLASTIC!
---The online, prolific author, or traveling 'shaman' really plays on copyright & legalities, & may threaten lawsuit numerous times on his/her webpage if his 'material' is passed around. Also look for abusive tones, sarcasm, egocentricism, extreme demands, & outlandish claims & promises that require 'donations', payments, or monetary 'gifts'. REAL INDIANS wouldn't dream of copyrighting what belongs to THE PEOPLE! And lawsuit is one of the LAST things on a REAL Elder's mind! Nor will a bonafide Leader be rude, crude, or obnoxious, nor CHARGE you for his knowledge!
---ALL Nations' prophecies warn that Indians should not trust non-Indians & that non-Indians have to PROVE, over LONG periods, that they can be trusted BEFORE an Indian will teach them much at all. So, 'shamans', authors, "Elders', etc, who open wide their arms to ALL & tell you they're going to reveal deep,mysterious tribal secrets are NOT being honest AT ALL! These same guys will tell you that the Elders who DON'T share with ALL races are greedy, mean, & dishonorable, but that they aren't like those other Elders because they want to SHARE it all with you! FOR A PRICE, of course!
---REAL Native Leaders do NOT use recreational drugs, get drunk/drink socially, smoke cigarettes, use certain types of protective birth control, hang college degrees on their walls (because to leave to go to college means giving up reaching the highest spiritual levels REAL Leaders MUST attain to BE a Leader), use the word "SHAMAN", hold orgies, allow women or pets to mix with men in ANY type of ceremony, or advertise in ANY way their abilities. Anyone who does these things is a FAKE, no doubt about it!
---If you see shimmering pictures of wolves, barely-clad women, unclad women, tigers, any form of pornography, or if your chosen guru refers to everything & everyone as Brother, Mother, My Relations, etc, RUN AWAY! You may be in a very dangerous situation! Many FAKES & PLASTICS have been charged with serious sex crimes & assaults!
---Indian Leaders do NOT talk about UFOs, do NOT go on Art Bell to discuss ANYTHING, will NOT give you a personal MANTRA, will NEVER combine teachings from ANY other Tribe into their own, put up 'guest books', solicit comments from their 'success stories', will NOT devote space to prophecies on 'Earth changes', multiple dimensions, alien abduction, or other worlds out there in space.
--- REAL Indian Leaders will NEVER deal you out a deck of CARDS, whether 'medicine cards' or tarot! You will NEVER be handed a 'medicine wheel' or a REAL sacred pipe to pass around a circle of NON-Indians! They won't 'read' any part of your body to predict your future or tell your past. No REAL Indian will claim to be PSYCHIC!!! NO astrology guides, rune stones, reiki, astral projections to other dimensions, yoga, mind-melding, or displays of levitations, magic tricks, or disappearing in puffs of smoke.
---REAL Indians will not refer to 'dens', or point you to other 'lodges', 'clans', or shield societies. There are NO legitimate "men's movements" or the like, which are GERMAN in origin.(See my review of Karl May.) You won't be required to design mandelas, spirit drums, or to go on a vision quest to find a name for your spirit animal. You will NEVER have to pay for a new 'Indian name', or anything else. Since your chances, if you are NON-Indian, of being taught ANYTHING by a REAL Leader/Elder/Teacher are slim & none, you will NOT be invited to bunk over with the rest of the 'apprentices', because there won't be any OTHERS. Passing of knowledge is NOT a group event! It's one-to-one!
