How to Purchase Gymboree Wholesale Lots on Ebay and Make a Profit

I run a full-time ebay business selling Gymboree clothing lots. I take the ways in which I acquire my inventory very seriously. Recently, I have had potential and current Gymboree sellers ask me if I would recomend building inventory through purchasing Gymboree wholesale/resale lots from ebay. So based on my experiences I decided to write a review with some tips and strategies that I have personally used when purchasing a wholesale/resale lot. This review complements and builds off the information I present in my gymboree selling manual.

So to answer the question "Should I buy gymboree wholesale/resale lots to build my inventory?" My answer to that is it depends. I think the best way to purchase your inventory is to learn and master yourself how to directly buy from Gymboree stores or gymboree online. This way you get the best deals and can hand-pick your inventory. However that may not be realistic for some sellers. One they may not have the time to research items and then search out the sales and second they may not have a gymboree in their area. So in this case yes I think it fine to purchase wholesale lots to build your inventory. But you must be very cautious and picky when doing to so to make sure you are getting the best items and the best prices so you can resell for a profit. I am very picky about the clothing I send to my customers. I want them to receive the cutest outfits Gymboree offers so I primarily purchase my inventory direct from Gymboree. Again, if you want to learn more on how I do this you can read my gymboree selling manual. Now that is not to say there is not a place for wholesale resale lots. You just need to make sure that you are getting a quality lot you will be able to resell for profit. The wholesale/resale lot needs to meet your needs as a Gymboree reseller.

So with that said I have put together a list of strategies that if you are going to purchase a wholesale/resale lot you can be sure you are going to get a quality lot that you can resell and make money on. And most importantly that your customers are going to love. Because if you have unhappy customers consider yourself out of business!

Strategies for Purchasing Wholesale/Resale Lots Include:

Use a different eBay User ID to purchase all inventory. I can not stress this strategy enough! There are two reasons for this. First being that you do want to be held hostage to the feedback system. Meaning if you get a bad lot you should be able to leave the appropriate feedback without worries of unjust retalitory negative feedback. And we all know this happens. So using another ID gives you a lot more freedom when purchasing your lots. Second reason you do not want your customers or other sellers to see how much you are paying for inventory. Not that they really care I just don't think it is professional to have that type of information out in the open.

Email buyers directly that have purchased from the seller you are considering. You do this by clicking on their user ID then clicking on the contact member link. Because of the issues with buyers afraid of leaving appropriate feedback you can not totally trust the feedback system to give you a true representation of how they felt about their experience.

Some questions to ask them are:

  • How many items did you receive in your lot?
  • What lines did you receive?
  • Where you happy with this lot?
  • Would you buy from this seller again?

Ask the seller to customize your lot. Even though you will be using a different ID to purchase your inventory do not be afraid to tell them you are a seller (of course do not reveal your selling user ID) and will be purchasing this lot for resale. Let them know what kinds of items you are looking for. If a seller chooses to make their niche or speciality selling wholesale/resale lots to gymboree resellers then they need to meet the needs of our business. Most of them claim to have tens of thousands of dollars in clothing. If that is the case then it should not be a problem for them to create a lot that will meet your business needs. Remember you are the customer at this point and if they want your repeat business they will work with you. IF THE SELLER WILL NOT WORK WITH YOU TO CUSTOMIZE A LOT THEN MOVE ON TO A SELLER THAT WILL! There are plenty out there just type in "gymboree wholesale" and you will find hundreds.

Ask very specific questions. More than likely you will not see pictures of your items. Which is fine but you just need to ask lots of questions. Some important questions are:

  1. Are all the items you going to send from a smoke-free home"? Sounds silly to ask that right? Well I just purchased a lot last week from a seller with 100% positive feedback and the entire lot smelled horrible of smoke. I did return them for a refund but I was very annoyed that this seller would send these items in the first place.
  2. Are any of the tags damaged (wrote on, ripped, torn, etc)? Again I received a beautiful lot from a seller and 20% of the items had damaged tags. I was not happy.
  3. What lines will be sent and the type of items from those lines? Again if wholesale/resale sellers have tens of thousands of merchandise to choose from then you should not be getting a bunch of items still sitting on the sale racks in your local gymboree store.
  4. Will there be basics in this lot? Basic just means anything that is a plain piece of clothing and does not have a pattern. Your customers want the cute stuff they can go anywhere for a white turtleneck.
  5. Again ask to them to customize as much as possible. If you only sell outfits/sets then make sure that is all you are going to get. If you want a bunch of single items to fill your store then say that. Again you are the customer!

Make sure you ask all questions before you bid or buy!

DO NOT PAY MORE THAN 25% - 35% OF THE TOTAL RETAIL VALUE INCLUDING SHIPPING!!  In order to make a profit selling Gymboree on Ebay you absolutely need to acquire your inventory at 65%-75% off. I show you how to purchase inventory at this price directly from Gymboree again in my manual. However if you do not have time to constantly watch the sales and shop or you do not have a gymboree store close by then I suggest forming a relationship with a ebay gymboree wholesaler. I now offer resale lots for my customers. Check them out! They are very high quality and always 65% off!

I hope this guide helps you as you acquire your gymboree inventory. Please take the time to vote on whether this guide was helpful. I hope it was!
