Feedback is an incredible tool for buyers to use when purchasing on eBay.  Yet, I see many folks that just do not use the information provided in feedback.

Before you purchase (or bid) from someone on eBay you should always check the feedback.

To check the feedback CLICK on the feedback number just after the sellers user ID.  It will then take you into a screen that shows a breakdown of the sellers feedback.

When you do this you will see how many positives (and negatives) a seller has received for the past 30 days, 6 months and 1 year.  But that does not tell the whole story.  You need to know what you do with that information.

If a seller has been selling on eBay they are going to have some negatives because you just can't satisfy everyone.  Some buyers get mad at the post office, or at eBay or at themselves and leave an undeserved negative for a seller that has done nothing wrong.   Other negatives are well deserved.

The  positives and negatives are going to be a good indicator of how your transaction with that seller will go.

In my opinion anything below 99% positive feedback (in most categories) should give you reason to look for another seller.   If a lot of negatives have come within the past 30 days, you should look for another seller.

Remember things do go wrong with eBay orders sometimes.  What you want to find is a seller that you feel will solve those problems, to a fair resolution, if they do come up.

There is another item you should be looking at. It's the number of ratings mutually withdrawn.  It's at the top of the bar where the actual feedback comments start.

That mutually withdrawn number should not be in the hundreds.  If it is then it means that the seller leaves negatives for their buyers and then forces them to retract the, often deserved negative, that the buyers left for the seller.  You should probably find another seller if you run into this.

If you are shopping on eBay for the lowest price, chances are you will run into less than satisfactory feedback, or delivery issues as you go down in price.  Remember the lowest price is not a bargain if you get slow delivery, inferior merchandise or no merchandise at all!
