Step 1: Materials Needed

Okay, to begin making jewellery, you firstly need the right materials.

Hard time
Adhering Bails
Using Mod Podge?
Use E6000 HOT
TIP

These can be found in any local craft shop, ebay, art shop,
scrapbooking store, or the web – which has the widest choice
around. Be aware that if you purchase online, which is more fun,
there will be a time delay in delivery..

1. Dominoes: Traditional black, wooden, childrens.

2. Paper: Japanese, Scrapbooking, paper with a pictorially excellent dense quality.

3. Exacto Knife/Hobby Knife: For precise cutting. No scissors needed.

4. Soft Sponge/Tissue: To wipe off excess glue/glaze.

5. Mod Podge: Mod Podge is non-toxic, acid free glue, sealer and finisher all-in-one. I use the outdoor matte variety as diamond glaze will provide all the shine needed.

6. Diamond Glaze: A definite must to create your glass look.

7. Jewellery finding/s: Bails, cuff links, brooches, phone straps, earrings, bookmarks, keychains, bar pins.

Step 2: Paper

Now comes the fun!

The paper as mentioned on the previous page should be of dense
quality.

Japanese papers are a great example of this, as the colours are
vibrant and easy to use/cut.

However, you may use papers from any scrapbooking range,
papers from around the world even such as papyrus paper..
experiment and have fun!

Now to the instructions:

Select the design you would like to use on the paper chosen.

Take the piece of paper you have chosen and lay it picture side
down.

Cover your domino using a thin layer of Mod Podge, with either
gloves or paint brush or your fingers if you don't mind getting
messy so the domino is completely covered.

Step 3: Messy Times Ahead!

Place the Mod Podge side of your domino onto the blank side
of the paper (pic a). Should you require an exact position on the
paper, take the paper and place it up to the light before the next
step.

Press down firmly, smooth out bubbles and wipe any excess glue
off with a sponge or tissue (pic b).

Set aside to dry for up to 20 minutes (pic c).

Step 4: Time to Cut!

Once dried, use the Exacto Knife and firmly and gently cut around
the domino. (TIP: LEAN your Exacto Knife into the tile for clean,
crisp edges)

The end result will be a beautifully designed domino piece made
with love by you!

Step 5: More Mess Ahead!

Once you have separated the domino piece from the paper, it's
time to get your hands messy!!! (You may, of course, opt to put
a pair of gloves on for this section)

To perfectly adhere the paper to the domino, you need to put an
even coat of Mod Podge over the ENTIRE domino piece (all 4
sides). Make sure to go over the edges carefully and stick down
any pieces of paper not already stuck. (See pic a)

Let this dry completely for at least 20 minutes (or follow
manufacturer's instructions if not using Mod Podge). (See pic b)

When this is done, let it dry according to instructions and get
ready for the next step..

Step 6: A Touch of Glass

When the Mod Podge has dried, take your diamond glaze and
get ready to make jewellery stand out!

If you are NOT using Diamond Glaze – such as a resin or another
toxic glaze as dimond glaze is NON TOXIC – please follow the
instructions as they will differ to these instructions given.

You may apply as much or as little glaze as you like, but for best
results, use about ¼ inch thick, all over the TOP of your new design.
Work from the outside in, as you will notice the glaze moves inward,
and if bubbles appear, don't worry, blow them out, or use a needle,
but do so before it sets.. or the bubbles will stay! Let set according
to manufacturer's recommended time.. this is usually overnight/
24 hours depending on weather. Should you want another layer of
glaze, wait 30 minutes before applying, to make sure the first layer

(See pic a)

Dry in a COOL, DRY place and on FLAT surfaces only as the glaze
will slip away!!! Make sure it is COMPLETELY dry before adding the
final touches. (See pic b)

Your domino piece will look like glass once set and set your
piece of jewellery apart from the rest.

Step 7: From Art to Jewellery

When all dried, your piece of art is ready to take on jewellery
formation!!!! :) The suppliers I have listed make it easy for a novice.
Most sell surfaces you can adhere the tile to – much better than
damaging the surface with a drill!!!

You have so much to choose from, but for this lesson, I am
going to use what's known as an “Aanruku” bail. These types of
bails are easiest to use for novices (like myself still) and will in the
end, create a stunning pendant... all you need to add after this is
a chain, or cord and it's done!

Take your piece of artwork and hold it glazed side down (dot
side up) and place some PVA (MUST press harder to work) or
E 6000 (best option) glue on the bumpier, decorated side of the bail.

Press firmly to secure in place, wipe off the excess glue and leave

When dry, thread through a cord or chain
You've just succeeded in making your first
jewellery item!
