Hi, I have had many questions about how to measure a shark tooth. Well as most of you know there are many different kinds and shapes of shark teeth. In all species though, you measure the longest length along the slant of the tooth from the top of the root to the tip of the blade. Both sides may or may not be equal, so you measure the longest side to tell the length. Even with a tiger shark tooth, you measure along the slant from the top of the root to the tip of the blade. To measure the width, measure from the widest point of the root. Sometimes the blade where it meets the root may be the widest point. I usually give the measurements in inches and centimeters or millimeters. Remember most of the world measures in metrics not inches. So try to give both measurments to cover all bases.

A shark jaw is different. All shark jaws are made up of four quadrants. Upper right, Upper left and lower right and lower left. The best way to measure a jaw is to take the widest point on the outside of the jaw where the upper half connects to the lower half. This is the width. Now to measure the heigth of the jaw you start from the top of the jaw and measure down to the lowest part of the jaw. This gives the heigth of the jaw. Don't measure the opening of the jaw, as this is not the correct measurment of the total jaw. All shark jaws have two little knobs on top of the jaw, which can clearly be seen. This is how you tell the top from the bottom. Also in some jaws you can tell the upper from the lower by the shape of the teeth. Most sharks have broad teeth at top and long needle like teeth on bottom. The lower teeth grab the prey and the upper teeth cut through the prey as they shake there head to get a bite. This does not inclued the Tiger, Sand Tiger or Megalodon shark, as their teeth are almost alike on top and bottom.

THEY ARE THE TRUE MANEATERS AND WILL DELIBERATELY ATTACK A HUMAN...
