BEFORE YOU LEARN TO DO THIS I WOULD LIKE FOR YOU TO KNOW THAT MOST PEOPLE DO NOT LIKE MUSIC, SOUNDS, OR TUNES TO BLAST OUT WHEN THEY VIEW YOUR AUCTION. THIS CAN LEAD TO A HASTE RETREAT FROM YOUR SITE AND YOU MAY LOSE A POTENTIAL BUYER. THE FIRST TECHNIQUE EMBEDS THE FILE INTO YOUR LISTING, THE VIEWER HAS NO CHOICE BUT TO LISTEN TO IT, THERE IS NO PLAYER, OR A STOP BUTTON IN THE LISTING, THE FILE WILL CONTINUOUSLY PLAY.  I THINK THIS IS A GREAT FIT FOR EBAYERS SELLING CD'S, RINGTONES, AND ANYWHERE IN THAT SPECTRUM WHERE HAVING A SNIPPET OF WHAT YOU ARE SELLING WILL HELP.

(buyer can just hit the stop button next to the refresh button in your web browser to stop the tunes, but most people don't know this, if you can creatively mask this into a notice on how to stop the music it will be beneficial)

The first method in this guide will teach you how to add or (embed) music into your auction. To see a sample of this click the link below to view my ME page. (LOAD TIME). If you have a fast connection it should take less than 1-2 minutes for it to begin. (if you have dial up, forget it).

Keep in mind that the load time is due to the size of the file. In my ME page I am running the whole length of the song. You can use a smaller file with a thirty second version of the tunes you want. Load time will decrease drastically, 10-20 seconds.

SERVER SPACE: Now that you get an idea of how this works let me elaborate more on the process aspect of it. In order for you to apply this technique to your listing you need a server to host your file. For you techies I am sure you have some server space you can tap into. If you have a website you can host the file there. There are FREE HOSTING site's on the net. Do some research on google and go with the best candidate. I would advise you review yahoo web hosting, unlimited bandwidth/space for the price of two latte's a month from starbucks..

CODE: Below is what you need to embed into your listings HTML. Now to do this, simply copy and past the the following into your listing. Keep in mind that this is a script that needs to be in the HTML of your listing. When you are done creating your ad, switch to edit in HTML, copy and paste the following at the bottom of all the html..YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW HTML TO DO THIS.. If you are using turbo lister, or any other auction creating tool, even if your doing it through ebay, it is simple to edit in HTML: simply switch to edit in HTML mode, COPY AND PASTE THE FOLLOWING AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR HTML..

Replace the (your file location, begins with http:// ) with the location of your file. For all methods..

1) Background sound

Script below will embedd the audio, simlar to how it appears in my ME page

This is a method for invisibly embedding sound that can't be turned off, so it is NOT visitor friendly and not recommended for auctions. It only works in Internet Explorer and is merely included here for completeness.

<bgsound src="your file location, begins with http:// " loop=-1>

2) Default Media Player

This method calls the sound player that may be on the user's computer. There is usually some sort of player on most machines. If there is no player, the user's computer may seem to lock up during the time it searches for one. In the end, it may ask the user if a player should be downloaded.

  <center>
      <EMBED SRC=http://www.myhost.com/song.mid
      HIDDEN=false HEIGHT=100 WIDTH=195
      AUTOSTART=false LOOP=true>
      </EMBED>
  </center>

3) Clickable Link

This is a clickable link that gives the user the option to hear the sound.

  <a href="http://www.myhost.com/soundfile.mid">Click to hear it</a>

4) Download Microsoft Player

This method will fetch a player from Microsoft for Windows computers. This method will be rewritten and voided if it passes through eBay's description rewriter on the listing form. Do NOT touch the Standard tab or preview the code on the listing screen.

  <OBJECT ID="Player" height="100" width="150"

         CODEBASE="http://activex.microsoft.com/activex/controls/mplayer/en/nsmp2inf.cab#Version=5,1,52,701"
         STANDBY="Loading Microsoft Windows Media Player components..."
         TYPE="application/x-oleobject">
         <PARAM name="filename" value="http://www.myhost.com/mysong.mid">
         <PARAM name="autoStart" value="false">
  </OBJECT>
