HOW I UPLOAD FREE RINGTONES TO AN iPhone

I find it a little irritating that I am expected to pay for a ringtone after I already own the whole song. Can you say rip off? After a lot of reading and some experimenting I figured out how to edit, upload and install songs as ringtones. The cost is Zero and this method will still work after the recent update that interfered with a lot of the other workarounds.

First if you don't want a three minute ring tone, edit your song:

MP3 Direct cut is a freebie and seems to work OK, Get it at: zdnet.com

Install it
Choose File \ Open choose your file
Hit Play
Hit set begin were you want your music to begin
Hit set end where you want your music to end
Save the file
Upload it to your phone

Here is the procedure in non geek speak:

 Down load AppTap another freebie and after installing it, you can download free software directly to your iPhone. One of these is called "SendSong", and lets you specify any song as your ringtone. A variety of downloads including games and other apps can be down loaded wirelessly using App Tap. Smarter people than I are writing cool apps as you read this.

DOWNLOAD THE APP TAP VERSION FOR YOUR OS AT:   iphone.nullriver dot com ( Ebay won't let me link to a non Ebay page)
INSTALL APP TAP ON YOUR COMPUTER
HOOK UP YOUR IPHONE
RUN APP TAP
SET BACK, LET IT RUN
AFTER IT RUNS CLOSE APP TAP
DISCONNECT YOUR IPHONE
FIND THE NEW INSTALL WINDOW
A LIST WILL APPEAR
CHOOSE : COMMUNITTY SOURCES
INSTALL SEND SONG
OPEN SEND SONG
CHOOSE THE SONG YOU WANT TO USE AS A RINGTONE
CHOOSE SEND TO RINGTONE
CHOOSE SETTINGS
CHOOSE SOUNDS
YOUR NEW RINGTONE WILL BE THERE

NOTE: I have had no problems with this procedure. The phone was not damaged and worked well. You may hose up your expensive iPhone by uploading an installing non factory applications. So let's read that warning again:
