Ever been curious how, or why tarot works?
Users of tarot decks utilize them for insight and guidance. The tarot both aids in helping us to understand ourselves, and also those people who are, or might become significant in our lives.
Tarot card decks contain images, symbols, archetypes, colors, elements, and sometimes numbers, and astrology signs...depending on the deck you choose.
Tarot dates back to the mid 15th century. Some have felt, or believed it tarot was bad...linked to pagan, or wiccan beliefs, or other negative areas (or beliefs that are believed to be on the dark side)...sometimes this is because of the subject matter, or imagery in a particular deck. I personally believe tarot is what you make it. It's all in the "intention" with which you use it! I personally feel it is a great tool for guidance, and self-discovery.
The strong and powerful symbolism of the Major Arcana reflects the principle events of our lives, while the cards of the Minor Arcana tell us about our circumstances, and our experiences, as well as the direction we may be heading.
The esoteric meaning of each card, its symbols, archetypes, feminine and masculine principles, and the elements of air, earth, fire, and water associated with the various tarot cards in the deck...all help guide us through our daily lives.
It's not alway easy to understand exactly how the tarot works, or why it seems to be so accurate in pinpointing what's going on in our lives. It appears that the symbolism in the cards brings out our intuitive and psychic abilities...reflecting our inner landscape...and often this is not easily understood by our intellectual side.
Many believe that the universe and everything in it is connected, and furthermore that the outer world is a mirror of our inner world.
So the theory is that whatever we "ask the tarot" will be reflected in the cards we choose. When we select a card, or cards, it is believed that it, or they reflect an inner image of ourselves, which may also be reflected in an outer situation that is occurring at the time of the reading. Sometimes it is easy to see what is being revealed, while at other times we are unaware of what is going on, or maybe in denial, and very well may be being introduced to a new part of ourselves, or our lives that we have not noticed before.
Please as your start your journey...if you're new to tarot...give yourself time, and be patient with yourself. Be willing to trust the cards, and yourself, and attempt to comprehend what the cards are trying to tell you. Tarot cards don't so much foretell the future, but rather the likely outcome of a situation...but all is always ultimately left up to us and our "free will" to choose what path we will take.
So the tarot cards can be used for multiple purposes...as a self-knowledge tool, as a predictive tool, or a guidance tool. The cards can allow us a look at our psychological patterns, spiritual aspirations, and the hidden motivations that govern our lives.
The word "archetypal" from the world of psychology describes the universal patterns that are inherent in all of us. The tarot can reflect these archetypal situations and give us insight into how to deal with them...
