The most popular feature on today's aftermarket headlights is Projector Headlights. The biggest reason they are so popular is because most of the high-end carmakers like FERRARI, PORSCHE, LEXUS, BMW, MERCEDES and AUDI have projector headlights on their stock headlights.

But a very common MISTAKE people make when purchasing these aftermarket Projector headlights is that they think they would be able to put HID lighting kits into the aftermarket projector headlights. But in most cases this cannot be done.

For several reason:
  • Most aftermarket Projector headlights use a totally different size light bulbs than the one that come stock with your factory headlights.
  • Another mistake people make is they buy the correct HID size bulbs to work with the aftermarket lights, but in most cases, the aftermarket lights are not made to handle HIDs. HID bulbs are about twice the size of standard halogen bulbs, in length. So when you put them into most aftermarket projector lights, the bulbs will be right next to the projector lens. Which is known to cause the burning/ melting of the lens and completely ruining the housing of the headlights. And in some cases, the HID bulb will not even fit into the projector housing because the tip of the long bulb is hitting the back of the lens.

-The insulating ground bar, the bar parallel to the bulb, should always be pointed downward, when installed into the headlight socket.-

HELPFUL TIPS TO FOLLOW WHEN FIGURING OUT IF THE AFTERMARKET PROJECTOR LIGHT YOU ARE ABOUT TO PURCHASE CAN HANDLE HID LIGHTING:

  • When aftermarket Projector headlights come with either HALOGEN bulbs or the socket opening are for bulbs sizes that are for HALOGEN bulbs, like H1, H3, H4, H7, 9004, 9005, 9006 or 9007 etc. That means the CORRECT and PROPER light bulbs to use on these headlights are HALOGEN bulbs.

  • But aftermarket headlights that ARE equipped to handle HID lighting are the ones that come with the socket opening to handle either D2S or D2R bulbs, those type of bulbs are the same ones that can be found in the high end BMWs and Audi's etc.

***Important Tip***

If you are curious to see what kind of Projectpr headlights you're about to purchase is to just ask the seller a question about it. REPUTABLE SELLERS should be able to tell you if HID lighting will work on the Projector headlights they are selling.

Hope this guide helps you in making a purchase of aftermarket lights,
