This purpose of this guide is to provide you with information on listings for Hershey Chocolate (now The Hershey Company) items.
The first thing you need to remember is that Hershey produces candy and other food products. They do not manufacture candy dishes or other containers. They do not print books or make stuffed animals. These items are made by other companies and licensed under the authority of Hershey. So if you see a candy dish for auction on Ebay, and the add says "This dish was made by Hershy Chocolate", that is not the case. Hershey only gave permission for the dish to be made. Try to look for items which were given only to employees of the company. Items such as Safety Awards, Medals or Medallions given to employees for milestone achievement, or certificates of merrit. These are things which would command a higher price since they are for employees only. Such items may also be numbered and only a limited amount were made. These items would be of more value. Some items may have signatures of Company Presidents or Plant Managers and others who would offer their approval for a job well done. Items such as cookbooks which are very old and have a date shown, are worth more then newer ones. Items made for "one time events" will also be very appealing to buyers and collectors. And of course, for the most part, older is better. Historic items from the towns early years will be appealing to someone who has lived in the town of Hershey or surrounding area. There are some rare books and other printed material which are special collectors items. Books should be in good condition and readable with a copyright date shown. There are thousands of Hershey items out there. But if you spy that one of a kind item, you may have an overwhelming response to your auction.
