Proper care of your guitar is vital to the life and quality of the instrument for years to come. In most cases, a small investment compared to most but still it is an investment and investments need to be taken care of. Here are a few suggestions and simple ideals for the care of your instrument.

NECK AND STRING CARE

Not many people do this but I highly suggest to create the habit of doing this. Buy yourself a good quality Micro Fiber rag and put it in your case or bag and the rag will be worth its weight in gold. Always wash your hands before playing. Dirty hands will kill the sound of yuour strings as much or more than anything your can do. The dirt gets into the winding of the strings and deadens the sound. Even a new set of good strings will not last long under these conditions. This is where the Micro Fiber rag comes to play. Each time you finish picking, or even after an hour or so, take your rag and wipe your neck and strings down. This will acomplish two things, first it will help keep the strings clean and secondly it will clean the back of the neck down to the finish for faster action. Your hand will slide better down the neck. When you are finished playing, wipe the neck again and this time take your rag and run it under the strings to help clean the bottom of the strings. Also from time to time throw your rag in the washing machine to keep it clean. Taking these precautions will help preserve the strings for longer life and bottom line will save you money because you will not have to buy as many sets of strings.

When you do have ot put a new set of strings on, it is always better while you have your strings off to put some type of protective coating on your fretboard. Some say Lemon Oil is good but I always use Dr. Stringfellow, either will do a good job. I am sure there are other good coatings and protectives to use, just check with your local shop.

BODY CARE

Not a lot of care is required for the body. From time to time a good coat of polish is recommended to uphold the finish. Each time before putting the guitar back in its case, take your Micro Fiber rag and wipe down the body to help preserve the finish.

Also a little something that might be helpful. When your child puts a sticker on or if you buy a used guitar with stickers on them, there is an easy way to get the glue off. I don't recommend this for satin finish and if you do PLEASE try a very small spot first. Use WD40, works great on getting the glue off. Spray on a soft rag and rub, when finished take a dry rag and wipe off. Alcohol and lighter fluid also will work. ALWAYS TRY A VERY SMALL SPOT FIRST TO MAKE SURE IT WILL NOT HURT YOUR FINISH!!!!!!!

CASES

Having the proper storage when not in use prevents many accidents from happening, some which can be fatal to the instrument. A case is well worth the investment or your might say a pretty cheap insurance for you insturment. Gig bags, Featherlite cases and hardshell cases are also convenient for carrying extras such as strings, pick and capos. From time to time take a good vinyl cleaner and wipe down the hardshell case to prevent cracking in the later years.

Hope this is of some help.
