Not to take anything away from E-Bay sales but the purchase of a quality muscal instrument is quite a bit more involved than just price and a narative statement. Any guitar can be virtually ruined by excessive humidity, heat, and improper long term storage. Additionally incorrectly repired damages can not only affect the sound but may serously affect the guitars worth. Sound quality, resonance, and tone can also differ quite substantially on identical models. Monday morning lemons are not restricted to the automotive industry and their are some dogs out there. Anyone attempting to buy a quality instrument without playing it, hearing it, and having it evaluated by someone qualified to make a professional assement is just plain asking for trouble.
If you are looking to purchase a quality instrument I am sure the price will be representative of the process and I would seriously suggest making arrangements to have the guitar evaluated at by a professional lutherier as part of the purchase agreement.
Play it, feel it and be your own critic. And for goodness sakes, read up a little. There is litterally tons of information available on the internet and some simple knowledge seeking can potentially save you from a disasterous experience.
Does the guitar look like may have had previous repair work done? (evaluate it in a well lit area and then different kinds of lighting.) Does it sound nice? Have the strings recently been changed and is the guitar holding its tune? Is the distance from the strings to the fretboard within specifications and does the fretboard look twisted or warped. How about checking the itonation. Ah ha.... See what I mean, Read, Ask the seller direct questions, and play it, and get qualified advice. Then just plain enjoy it.
