VGA/SVGA technology has been on the market for many years.  There are tons and tons computer cable manufacture in the market.  People tend to be price intensive when they pick their computer cable.  There is nothing like a "FREE" meal.  The lower the price you are also compremising the quality of signal. 

Q1.  Why do VGA cables differ in Overall Diameter?

A:  There are several different spec for VGA cables.  The most common one are 15 conductor VS 3 Coax+ 7 conductor.  15 conductor VGA cable use 15 same sized hookup wire where 3 Coax cable use 3 mini coaxial cable for their RGB signal(Red Green Blue).

Q2.  Many seller mentioned shielding and why do cables need shielding?

A:  For shorter length you may not tell the difference, but once you run the cable for longer length, cable with inferior material would start lossing signal.  By having multi layer of shielding(Mylar, Foil, braid, PVC), it would help to prevent signal loss.  Which explain why are some cable thicker in size and some are not.

Q3:  Whats Ferrite core?  Why do we need that on cables?

A:  Ferrite core is basicly magnet.  It would help to prevent EMI interference and reduce signal loss for longer size cable.
