Art Nouveau
Late 19th Century to Early 20th Century
Art Nouveau was an attempt to create an international style based on decoration. In many ways Art Nouveau was a response to the Industrial Revolution. The artist and designers were looking for an art form suitable to the modern age. At this time, urban life, as we understand now, was established. Old customs and styles sat alongside new combining images and ideas. Many artists and designers loved the new technologies and life styles, others preferred the past, fantasy and myth. Art Nouveau designers also believed that all the arts should work in harmony to create a "total work of art,"
