PEEEEEE-EEEEEEEWWWWWWWWW!!!!
What is that smell?
Before we go through the instructions we need to learn what causes the vomit smell. In short, because of hard plastic break down, urea escapes to the surface of your doll. Bacteria feeds on the urea which emits the odor. The bacteria needs oxygen to survive, so common sense tells us if we seal the doll inside and out,the bacteria will not be able to survive and create the odor. This guide will teach you how to seal your doll so you can bring her back in your house to enjoy.
What you will need to get started-
One stick of Loctite brand epoxy putty
One bottle of Probond brand polyurethane Ultimate glue
4 eye screws
small bit of polyfill
elastic for restringing
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Process
1- Take apart (unstring or unwalker-ize)
2- Take out eye mechanism.
3- Wash all parts in antibacterial soap, inside and out. Let dry.
4- Coat the inisde of torso and head with Probond polyurethane glue. Every square mm HAS to be covered in order for the bacteria not to feed. Also note that the Probond expands as it dries. So use sparingly around the eye sockets.
5- Stuff limbs with polyfill leaving about 1/2" or so at the top.
6- Fill the upper limbs with epoxy putty, and push in an
eye screw before it's set. It should look like this when finished-
7a- You can airbrush your doll at this stage if she needs it. Not all stinky dolls need repainting.
7b- Coat the outside of doll in 3 coats of satin clear finish spray. (this is mandatory
whether you repaint your doll or not.)
8- take eyes off the eye bar and glue in place. Now here you're probably asking why?
The bar or claw the eyes are set with will break the seal, and she will begin to stink again. This is the only downside in de-skunking one of these beauties. But if it's between her not being able to sleep or her going to the landfill, I think it's worth it.
9- restring her.
10- add wig and clothes.
I have de-skunked many of these beauties using this process. So far none have shown any signs of becoming stinkers again. I hope with this information out here more of these dolls will be saved from the landfill.
You can find TLC hard plastic dolls both in the by material and parts categories.
