Laughter is the best medicine and it is also what made the Pillsbury Doughboy famous. Since his emergence in 1965, he has become one of the most recognized and loved advertising icon of all times. He appears randomly throughout eBay categories so it is a treaure hunt to find him!

He is referred to as the Pillsbury Doughboy and is also called Poppin Fresh. He has a whole family that is just as collectable as he is. The family members include his wife, named Poppie Fresh, a son named Popper, a daughter named Bun Bun, a cat called Biscuit, a dog named Flap Jack, and an uncle who was called Uncle who drove a blue car called Rollie (the uncle and the car together are named Uncle Rollie). The family members were only around briefly as most people loved the Doughboy and thought the family detracted from him. Still, most of the family member items are worth just as much as the doughboy. Uncle Rollie is one of the most expensive Doughboy collectables there is.

Uncle Rollie is valued at $300-$1000 depending on shape, if the eyes roll when you push the car, and if you have the original box he came in:

Tricks to finding the Doughboy on ebay

Since there is not a specific category to list the Pillsbury Doughboy, he is often found in categories all over eBay. Some of the more popular ones are under:

  • Collectibles - Advertising - Food and Restaurant - Bakery, Baking - Other Items (sometimes under Bread)
  • Collectibles - Housewares and Kitchenware - Kitchenware and then under various categories
  • If you are looking for clothes they are listed under vintage clothing unless it is newer items and then alot of times they put them under unisex clothing since both men and women collect this cute guy. Linens can appear under collectibles - Collectibles - Housewares and Kitchenware - Tableware or just under Household - Kitchen - Linens.
  • Danbury Mint is one of the most popular companies for making Pillsbury Doughboy items. Generally those items will be listed under Collectibles - Decorative Collectibles - Danbury Mint.
  • Over the past 40 years there has been thousands of various doughboy items made. Some were made available to the public, some were given to stores for promotions, and some were employee only items. There are items from toys to kitchenware to pens to Christmas ornaments.

I suggest you do a search by name rather than looking at each individual category unless you are looking for any kind of doughboy linen and then you could look specifically under linens. However, some sellers list all their doughboy collectors items under one category instead of breaking them out. If you notice the various tags I have listed below to search by, there are different ways I have spelled Doughboy. That is because some people put a space between the Dough and the Boy and if you search only for Doughboy you will miss ones spelled Dough Boy. Another way you could search to get both at the same time is to search for Dough* - the * means anything that has the word dough in it and you don't care what follows. This will also bring up other items not related to the Doughboy such as doughnuts because it starts with the word dough. You will notice that by searching for the word doughboy it also brings up alot of military stuff - soldiers used to be referred to as doughboys so this will add all their items into the search.

Some people list him as his other name Poppin Fresh - you can search for poppin fresh, but most of the time you only get a fraction of the results. The same goes for adding Pillsbury to the search - titles only have so many characters so alot of sellers will leave out the word Pillsbury to get more in the title. However, some people aren't good at spelling, so I also search with his name misspelled as you notice in the tags I suggest you search by. Alot of times sellers will type the name dougboy and not notice they left the h out - it is an easy mistake, but you can sometimes get a better deal if you search for misspelled items. Another popular misspelling is Pilsbury - only one l instead of two!

Quick Note: Capilization won't affect the search - if you search for Pillsbury and it comes up with 100 items, and then you search for pillsbury it will also come up with those same 100 items!

Lots of sellers are selling doughboy items in their ebay stores - these items come up after the regular items are listed, but they are a Buy It Now price. If you don't want to wait for an auction to end, you might browse through the eBay stores to see if someone has it listed so you can buy it right away.

BEWARE: There are alot of handcrafted items listed on eBay that are not genuine. People will glue a magnet to something and say it is a doughboy item. They will also print things off the computer and glue it to something to make it look like it is a genuine doughboy item! Some people list them as handcrafted or homemade, but alot of them don't! These items include, but are not limited to, light switch plates, night lights, napkin holders, towel dispensers, towels, mirrors, salt and pepper shakers, and more.

Item Condition

Please make sure to ask the seller about the condition of the item if it isn't listed in the auction! Most doughboy items are glass or ceramic. Over the years these items crack or get chips on them. The linens if used tend to have stains. If you don't want items like that, and it isn't described in the auction - ask them! Also some sellers list the auctions but don't really look at the condition until you ask because they are not experts on the items they are selling.

Be careful of Shipping

Some sellers are now making their money off the shipping and/or handling fees. You need to read the description and see how much this will be because this will be added on top of the what you bid on the item. Also if you are bidding on several items from the same seller, sometimes you can save money by having them ship the items together. Some sellers will NOT do this so read the auction carefully or ask them seller if they combine shipping. Another quick note about shipping is PLEASE make sure you pay for insurance if the item you are buying is glass or ceramic. Even the best packed items have gotten broken through the various shipping companies handling them. With the insurance, if you receive the item broken, you will get your money back - otherwise you lose your money and the item!

One of the best and easiest places to find this great collectible is on eBay! It is alot of fun searching to find that item you don't have or seeing the items that you do have and how much people will pay for them if you ever wanted to sell them!
